What is Narcissistic Personality Disorder?
So what is Narcissistic Personality Disorder? I will explain a few signs and symptoms.
This is a starter map to a very complex land.
N.P.D. is a psychological disorder characterized usually by a pervasive pattern of a sense of entitlement, selfishness, dishonesty, mind games, and a lack of empathy for others. That means, in the end, they really don’t care about you. They just pretend to care, as part of their abuse and trickery.
You probably won’t notice any of these signs at first. Because, like a spider in a web, they wait until you are trapped, and then they suck you dry.
Narcissistic Personality Disorder, or N.P.D. is like radiation, or a bomb. The abuser will damage a circle of people, most of them innocent. At first, you will not know who is telling the truth. The abuser may even cause innocent people to fight with each other.
TEN of the most prominent, and damaging traits, associated with N.P.D. include:
- Grandiosity. Individuals with NPD have an exaggerated sense of self-importance and believe they are superior to others. They often have fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, or beauty.
- Need for Admiration: People with NPD have an insatiable need for constant admiration and attention. They seek validation and praise from others to boost their fragile self-esteem.
- Lack of Empathy. Individuals with NPD have a limited ability to understand or empathize with the feelings, and experiences of others. They do not care how you feel, or what happened to you. They only pretend to care.
- Exploitation and Manipulation. NPD individuals frequently exploit, and manipulate others. They use charm, lies, and coercion to achieve their goals, without regard for the well-being of others. They do not care about hurting you, to make themselves happy.
- Sense of Entitlement. Those with NPD have an unjustified sense of entitlement. They believe they deserve special treatment, privileges, and recognition, without putting in the necessary effort.
- Envy and Jealousy. Individuals with NPD often experience intense feelings of envy and jealousy toward others who they perceive as more successful or superior. They struggle to handle the achievements or success of others. If you’re better than them, they will hate you for it.
- Fragile Self-Esteem. Despite their grandiose facade, individuals with NPD often have deep-rooted feelings of insecurity and low self-worth.
- Lack of Accountability. NPD individuals rarely take responsibility for their actions or accept criticism. They may deflect blame onto others, make excuses, or engage in gaslighting to avoid accountability.
- Difficulty Maintaining Relationships. NPD individuals may struggle with forming and maintaining healthy relationships. Beware anyone with a lack of empathy, manipulative behavior, or need for constant admiration.
- Emotional Manipulation. People with NPD frequently engage in emotional manipulation tactics, such as guilt-tripping, gaslighting, or playing mind games to control and dominate others.
Individuals with N.P.D. will exhibit a range of these traits to varying degrees. Each person is different. This is a general guide of what to look out for, so you may guard yourself.
