The Rise of AI and the Fear of Losing Our Minds

This concern is the idea that relying on algorithms to make investment decisions takes the human element out of the equation.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has become a ubiquitous presence in our lives, from the personal assistants on our smartphones to the complex algorithms powering the stock market. With advancements in AI technology, many people are increasingly relying on algorithms to make important decisions, rather than thinking for themselves. This trend has sparked concern among investors, doctors, artists, therapists, soldiers, the everyday human and human decision-makers — who worry that the use of AI in decision-making could lead to a detachment from reality and a reliance on machines.

At the heart of this concern is the idea that relying on algorithms to make small to important to life- and world-changing decisions takes the human element out of the equation. AI may be able to analyze vast amounts of data and make predictions based on that data, but it lacks the emotional intelligence and intuition that humans possess.

Without these qualities, AI can only make decisions based on what it has been programmed to do, which may not always be the best course of action.

Furthermore, many fear that the use of AI in decision-making could lead to a detachment from reality, from humanity, from empathy — and could even lead to machine-based narcissistic psychopaths. Those — either machine or humans led by machines — will have no qualms crushing fellow humans. We already have that worldwide problem with real human sociopaths and psychopaths. Now add AI to it.

And we must remember narcissistic sociopaths and psychopaths are not always the crazy person on the subway, or your last ex-partner. Narcissistic sociopaths and psychopaths often become CEOs, police officers, soldiers, persons in high positions of power — and quite often civic, religious, and world leaders. Narcissistic sociopathy and psychopathy give these individuals almost superhuman powers, including frequently a higher intelligence — but worse — ambivalent morality, sensitive egos that desire revenge or take pleasure at destruction, and the ability to lie repeatedly and outrageously without breaking a sweat. When we rely on algorithms to make decisions for us, we risk losing touch with the world around us. We become so focused on the data that we forget about the human factor, and this can lead to disastrous consequences.

Despite these concerns, there are those who believe that the use of AI in decision-making is a positive development. They argue that AI can help us make better decisions by analyzing vast amounts of data that we would never be able to process on our own. Furthermore, AI can help us identify patterns and trends that we may have missed otherwise.

Ultimately, the key to success in investing with AI is striking a balance between human intuition and the power of algorithms. It’s important to remember that AI is a tool, and like any tool, it has its limitations. To avoid becoming detached from reality, people and especially leaders in industry and local and world affairs must make a conscious effort to stay connected to the world around them and to use their own judgment and intuition when making decisions.

The rise of AI in decision-making has sparked concern among the citizens of the world who worry about the potential detachment from reality and reliance on machines. However, there are those who believe that AI can help us make better decisions by analyzing vast amounts of data. Ultimately, the key to success is finding the right balance between human intuition and the power of algorithms. As we continue to integrate AI into our lives, we must remain mindful of its limitations and ensure that we do not lose touch with the world around us.
